Napoli should not have waited until this summer to sell Victor Osimhen, according to their former sports director Cristiano Giuntoli.
This past summer Osimhen had to endure a long-drawn transfer saga involving several top clubs including Chelsea before he eventually went on loan at Galatasaray.
In January, PSG enquired about the striker and also top Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli tabled a lucrative offer.
Giuntoli, who is the now sports director at Juventus, has now told Corriere della Sera that it would most probably have been better if the striker was sold earlier than the summer.
“Perhaps he should have been sold earlier, but Aurelio (De Laurentiis) is an intelligent and astute entrepreneur,” he said.
The former Napoli director also revealed that arranging the transfer of Osimhen from Lille four years ago will rank as the most complicated of his career.
“It took me four months to bring him to Napoli,” he recounted.
