Victor Boniface insists goal joy not offensive

Victor Boniface has said his goal celebration at Hoffenheim is not provocative as it is “a nice dance” done in front of the fans of his own club.

He promised more of such celebration when he scores.

On Saturday, the striker scored twice and made an assist for Bayer Leverkusen to smash past home team Hoffenheim 4-1 in the Bundesliga.

After each goal he moved across to the fans, dropped his shorts, posed with some swagger before he swayed left and right.

“I didn’t want to provoke anyone, I did this in front of our fans. It was a TikTok trend from an influencer in Nigeria. I promised him that I would celebrate like that,” he said in a post-match interview.

“I was supposed to do it like the first two games, but I didn’t score. When I scored today (Saturday) I said it’s time for me to do this for you.

“I will keep doing it, so you’ll see more of the dance.”
