Today, the NPFL will come alive when former Super Eagles coach Finidi George leads out Rivers United against Heartland, who are coached by Emmanuel Amuneke.
This top-profile clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt will kick off by 3pm.
It will be live on Startimes Television.
Finidi and Amuneke, both of the Super Eagles Golden Generation, were only recently in the race for the top coaching post of the national team.
Finidi was eventually appointed to handle the Super Eagles only to quit the post after the team failed to win in two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
In the opening week of the new season, Finidi got a goalless draw at Bendel Insurance, while Heartland fell 3-1 at home to Enyimba in an ‘Oriental Derby’.
Rivers United were reduced to 10 men and also had to battle the rains in Benin City.
“We will be at home and hope to give our best to win,” Finidi said.
Amuneke and Heartland will therefore be under more pressure to get a result this afternoon.
