Mikel Obi has said Victor Osimhen could still transfer to Chelsea, the club he supported as a boy, even though he could not do so this summer.
Chelsea tabled a late bid Osimhen before he eventually he settled for a loan move to Galatasaray.
“I know exactly where we stopped, where we are with the deal (even if Chelsea decides to revisit the deal in January),” former Chelsea star Mikel said on Obione Podcast.
“Victor wanted to come to Chelsea, he knows he has a lot to prove in Europe, he knows he can score a lot of goals in the Premier League, so what a better place to do it than at his childhood club.
“Both sides played their part (I commend Chelsea for that), Victor was disappointed it didn’t happen.
“I spoke to him as soon as the transfer window shut, for about 20 minutes, to keep his head down, keep training and keep working hard and just make sure that when the time comes, he’s ready.”
It was widely reported that he rejected Chelsea because what they offered would mean he will take a massive pay cut, but Mikel defended Osimhen.
“Victor is not a greedy boy, he just wants to be paid what he deserves,” he argued.
