Super Eagles likely Starting XI: Victor Boniface on bench, Dele-Bashiru starts

Bayer Leverkusen high-flying forward Victor Boniface will most likely start from the bench, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will start in central midfield for the Super Eagles today against Benin.

Lazio midfielder Dele-Bashiru has impressed in training under new coach Augustine Eguavoen after he showed what he is capable of against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in June.

He will play in central midfield with Alex Iwobi doing a lot of running for him also in a three-man midfield that will have Wilfred Ndidi as the pivot.

Despite what he has achieved at Bundesliga club Leverkusen, Victor Boniface has yet to establish himself in the Super Eagles.

He is not an out-and-out striker as he prefers to play behind the main striker and that explained by former coach Jose Peseiro contemplated a 4-4-2 formation to accommodate him.

Eguavoen is most likely to play a flat back four of Ola Aina at right back, Calvin Bassey on the left with the tested central defence pairing of William Ekong and Semi Ajayi going back from the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon in the heart of it all.
