It’s win, not revenge against Benin insist bullish Super Eagles

The Super Eagles are bullish that the priority is to beat Benin tomorrow for the three points at stake in this 2025 AFCON qualifier rather than for them to avenge the loss they suffered to the same team in June.

The Cheetahs of Benin recorded a famous 2-1 win over the Super Eagles in June in Abidjan in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

It was the first victory by Benin over Nigeria at this level.

However, caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen said the focus of the team is to win and get their qualifying campaign for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco up and running.

“Starting with the match against Benin Republic on Saturday, nobody is mentioning anything about revenge,” Eguavoen maintained.

“Our goal is three points, and then we aim for another three points in Kigali on Tuesday that will put us in good stead for qualification.”

“It’s important we win because this is an important AFCON qualifier,” added goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

“We have to be at our best and play at our highest level.

“What is most important is the victory for the team and for Nigeria.”

The Super Eagles have been boosted by several top stars like stand-in captain William Ekong, Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi, who did not feature in the clash in June.
