Official: Govt won’t pay new Super Eagles coach

Top officials have told SCORENigeria that the Federal Government has made it very clear to the NFF it won’t pay the salaries of the new coach of the Super Eagles.

“The Federal Government will not pay the new coach of the Super Eagles, that’s the responsibility of the NFF,” one top official told SCORENigeria

“This position will therefore go a long way in determining who is eventually hired to lead the Super Eagles.”

Official: Govt won’t pay new Super Eagles coach

The previous sports minister Sunday Dare had given a firm commitment that the FGN will foot the bills of Jose Peseiro when he was appointed in 2022.

However, this did not happen and it was left for the NFF to eventually pay the Portuguese coach and when that was not sustainable, the football federation ran back to Government to clear the unpaid salaries of the coach.

At a point, Peseiro had to take a huge paycut from $70,000 a month to $50,000 on account of the difficulties the NFF encountered in paying him regularly.

The previous NFF administration also reportedly secured a corporate sponsor to pay the salaries of the Super Eagles coach as well as other national team coaches.

That arrangement has since ceased to exist.
