Super Falcons to go past Olympics ‘Group of Death’ – Ikpeba

Former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba has tipped the Super Falcons to go past the ‘Group of Death’ of Paris 2024 Olympics, which also has world champions Spain, Brazil and Japan.

“Super Falcons will get out of this ‘Group of Death’,” predicted Ikpeba.

“Nobody also gave us a chance when we were drawn in a tough-looking group at the 1996 Olympics that had Brazil, Japan and Hungary.

“But we went on to make history by winning the first Olympics Gold for Africa.”

He added: “The Falcons need early preparation, possibly in France for two, three weeks, we did same in 1996, when we trained for some weeks in the USA.

“The earlier they prepare, the better for the team.”

The Super Falcons defensive solidity was heavily criticised by their final playoffs opponents South Africa.

“Yes, our football was not beautiful, but they were pragmatic, they frustrated the South Africans,” Ikpeba argued.

“The girls showed passion and desire to win.

“It was all about the result.

“Defensively the Super Falcons were very good, while offensively they remain a work in progress.

“We should also remember that Asisat Oshoala was not really involved in the playoffs.”

The Super Falcons open their Paris Olympics campaign on July 25 against Brazil in Bordeuax.
