Will it be foreign coach or Amuneke as Super Eagles new coach?

The long-awaited appointment of a new Super Eagles coach could finally be made by the NFF this week with two foreign coaches battling Emmanuel Amuneke for the top post.

Pep Guardiola’s right hand man Domenec Torrent and former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao are understood to be the two foreign coaches under serious consideration.

The process to hire a new coach for the Super Eagles has been done mostly under the radar with top officials sharply divided on choice of coach as well as whether to settle for a foreign or local man.

Will it be foreign coach or Amuneke as Super Eagles new coach?

One of the top officials told SCORENigeria that were they to settle for a local coach, it will be Amuneke because “he’s best qualified” of his homegrown counterparts.

Torrent enjoyed a close working relationship as No 2 to Pep, who is regarded as the best coach in the world.

His representatives have been bullish in their push for their man to get the top position.

However, his biggest undoing is that he does not have “deep knowledge” of African football having never worked on the continent.

Conceicao, on the other hand, led the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to third place when they hosted the delayed 2021 AFCON two years ago.

The NFF can afford to pay both foreign coaches.
