Finidi fails to impress major stakeholders as Super Eagles boss

Finidi George will not be the next Super Eagles coach if it were left to major stakeholders of Nigeria football like state FA chairmen, who form the majority of the NFF congress, the highest decision-making body for the national sport.

Several FA Chairmen were far from impressed with Finidi after he won one and lost another friendly in temporary charge of the Super Eagles.

Under Finidi, the Eagles outscored Ghana 2-1 only to lose 2-0 to Mali in a second friendly Tuesday night all in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Finidi fails to impress major stakeholders as Super Eagles boss

The Enyimba coach was hailed after the win over arch-rivals Ghana only to be bashed after Mali beat Nigeria for the first time in 10 years.

The former Ajax winger led Enyimba to a record ninth NPFL championship last season.

He was an assistant to Jose Peseiro as Nigeria went all the way to the final of the recent AFCON against most expectations.

Majority of the stakeholders will subsequently support the appointment of a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.

The NFF are expected to soon announce a new Super Eagles coach, who will lead the country’s team to two crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers at home against South Africa and away in Benin all in June.

Nigeria are third in their qualifying group with two points after draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.

Rwanda are surprise group leaders on four points, while South Africa are second with three points.
