“Lactation is not easy especially for first time mums. It requires learning and practice. Before birth, from week 36, start expressing colostrum. It is a good head start into lactation and preparing your body for production of milk. It also helps in labour as the hormone prolactin helps to contract your uterus. After birth, for everytime you feed your baby, pump immediately after, even if nothing comes out, demand for more from your breast.
“The more demand the more the supply. Lastly, lot of fluid, it is not necessary pap or oats, its lot of electrolytes water. Drink water that your body can use, not the one that passes straight into urine. Finally, breastfeeding is not automatic after birth, you need to prepare, learn and work through it.”
