EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria plan to include football in 2030 Commonwealth Games

SCORENigeria can report that Nigeria have proposed to include “pride of Africa” football as one of the events at the 2030 Commonwealth Games they are bidding to host.

A top official informed SCORENigeria: “The Nigerian bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games has included football as an event.

“The argument is that football is the pride of Africa and it will further boost public interest in the games.”

Football has not been a part of previous Commonwealth Games because organisers have failed to reach an agreement with world football governing body FIFA on including the popular sport.

The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be the centennial games.

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) is fully behind the bid for Nigeria to become the first African country to host the multi-sports festival.
