“Some people make hits. Some make headlines, while others make history,” says Taiwo. “K1 De Ultimate has done all three. This book is my way of documenting the remarkable career of the subject, while also exploring how Fuji music became a mirror for society and a soundtrack for generations.”
K1 De Ultimate: A Legacy Secured explores four decades of K1’s innovation in Fuji music, his artistry, inspirations, and impact on the larger Nigerian music landscape. Through detailed storytelling, archival references and cultural analysis, the book examines K1 as both an entertainer and an institution, highlighting his role in shaping Nigerian music, thereby influencing contemporary genres such as Afrobeats, as well as redefining what it means to be a public figure.
“The world currently loves Afrobeats, but to understand where it came from, you need to understand Fuji,” Taiwo adds.
The book’s release will mark another milestone in Jide Taiwo’s work of cultural documentation, having previously authored “History Made: The Most Important Nigerian Songs Since 1999” and “E File Fun Burna: The Incredible Stagecraft of Burna Boy, along with writings on acclaimed documentaries and co-curation of art exhibitions.
