Rema: Police Clear Air on Claims That Singer Used His Officers To Arrest Interior Designer

  • Allegations fly online as Rema is accused of using police to detain an interior designer over unpaid debt
  • Police authorities countered the claims, revealing a N386m contract dispute and alleged diversion of funds
  • Nigerians are divided as fresh details emerge, questioning who is telling the real story

What started as a messy social media callout involving award-winning singer Rema and an interior designer, Amaka Obasi, has now snowballed into something far bigger.

On Tuesday, September 16, on X (formerly Twitter), a user named Derrick alleged that the “Calm Down” crooner used police officers to harass and detain Obasi.

According to him, her only “crime” was demanding payment for renovation and studio projects she executed for the superstar.

But the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) stepped forward with an explanation of the case

In a detailed statement, FCID spokesperson Aminat Mayegun revealed that the matter wasn’t about simple unpaid debts. Instead, it was tied to a multi-million naira contract gone sour.

According to her, Obasi, who operates under Ardeb Lifestyle Company, allegedly signed an agreement worth N386m with Rema in April 2023. Out of this, N287m was reportedly paid upfront.

However, investigations suggested the work was incomplete, and promised furniture was missing when the property was inspected.

Mayegun claimed that part of the funds was traced to another account unrelated to the project.

The statement read:

“She failed to provide an independent valuer’s report or a legal representative despite being advised, and was eventually apprehended.”

The FCID says both parties were asked to involve a valuer to assess the project, but Obasi allegedly declined.

Derrick, on the other hand, insists she has been unfairly targeted and forced to pay over N1m as bail in a setup.

“You should investigate a bit more before pointing accusing fingers, calling the investigation a shame. Smh”

@Kombo96147903:

“Is this not clearly a civil matter? Are the NPF a debt recovery agency? Why are you people so stupid and deliberately corrupt?”

@OlusegunBigfish:

“I don first go para but she should be allowed to have access to her lawyer sha. The money plenty pass make Rema no para.. Lol”

@adewalefajana:

“And you’re not smart enough to see that it is a purely civil matter? A contractual agreement for service to be provided is what you’re dabbling into?”

@Ibrahim_Geek:

“Nigerians no go make the other side of the story to go viral now. At least we’ve heard the other side”
