South Africa coach blasts: No ‘Nigerians’ in Super Eagles

South Africa coach Hugo Broos has blasted the Super Eagles for not playing any player from the local league, while also saying that his team have not been disadvantaged by going with local players.

“When you look at the Nigerian team, there are no ‘Nigerians’ in the squad, they all play abroad for big teams. Atalanta, Milan, Fulham, etc,” Hugo Broos commented after his team were held to a 1-1 draw in Bloemfontein by the three-time African champions Tuesday.

“We don’t have any, but you see that it’s not a disadvantage.”

Burnley striker Lyle Foster was the Europe-based player for South Africa in this match.

South Africa remain top of Group C of the qualifying series for the 2026 World Cup with 17 points from eight matches, six points clear of star-studded Nigeria with two rounds of matches left to be played next month.
