SCORENigeria can report that the Super Eagles have yet to receive the houses and plots of land in Abuja promised them by the Federal Government more than 18 months after this promise.
President Bola Tinubu rewarded the Super Eagles with house and land gifts after they reached the final of the delayed 2023 AFCON.
This comes more than 18 months after the President also gave Abuja landed properties to both the Super Falcons and D’Tigress after they again underlined their dominance in Africa.
Bureaucratic bottlenecks and improper documentation are believed to be behind this delay.
“We have not received even the papers for both the houses and land,” one of the beneficiaries of the government largesse told SCORENigeria
“We filled some forms at the Villa (Aso Rock) during the Presidential reception, but since then, we have not heard anything on this matter.”
Another member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2023 AFCON spoke on allegations that the authorities have kicked against the list sent to them, which is different from what they were originally working with.
“The new list they received had many officials on it,” the squad member alleged.
It is on record that some rewards by government to deserving sports persons are often held back or in some cases do not even reach them.
