Player of the 2024 WAFCON final Esther Okoronkwo has said the rallying cry for the Super Falcons after they fell behind by two goals was that “it was all or nothing”.
Okoronkwo netted the penalty goal that got Nigeria back into reckoning in Saturday’s final against home team Morocco, before she assisted the two other goals for the Super Falcons to win 3-2 and be crowned champions of Africa for a record-extending 10th time.
The Canada-based forward said the Super Falcons had to go for broke after the break as they were trailing by two goals.
“When we went to the locker room, we gathered the fighting spirit, because it was all or nothing…”, she revealed.
“The first half goals were unfortunate. It happens in football.”
She said she is thrilled to win her first WAFCON, while commending Morocco for stretching the Super Falcons.
“The Moroccan team have chemistry, they were a tough team,” Okoronkwo admitted.
