Bayer Leverkusen will be an entirely new team in the new season following the departure of coach Xabi Alonso and several top players added to the latest report that the German club have also put Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface on the transfer list.
Leverkusen were initially reported to have put an asking price of €70 million on the striker, but have now lowered it to €50 million, indicating the club are serious about his departure.
Boniface, who joined from Union SG in 2023, has impressed with his physical strength and goals.
In his first season at Leverkusen, he managed to score 17 goals and provide 11 assists
There is considerable interest in the striker, with Newcastle United as one of the main candidates.
The English club are looking to strengthen their attack and see Boniface as a possible replacement or rival for Alexander Isak.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia have also shown interest, but a transfer to Al Ahli fell through in January.
Leverkusen recently extended Boniface’s contract, keeping him at the club until 2029.
However, this does not mean he is not for sale. The extension could be a strategic move to maintain his market value and make a lucrative transfer possible.
Leverkusen appear to be carrying out a major clean-up of their squad. Boniface could be one of the first players to leave, depending on the offers that come in.
For Boniface himself, a transfer could be a chance to develop further in a bigger league. At 24, he is at a crucial point in his career, which may make offers from the Middle East out of the question
